Vision Statement

The Youth Ministry at Discover Christian Church exists to lead middle and high school students to a real and deepening relationship with Christ.

3 John 1:4 - I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children are following the truth.

Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Spiritual Growth is one of our primary focuses of our ministry.   We purposely focus our efforts on developing structures that encourage a connection between student and Jesus, not student and "program".  We understand that one day students will graduate from high school and youth ministry, but our design is that they do not graduate their faith. So we have strategic ministries focused on personal-spiritual growth, so that they have the opportunity to develop strong spiritual habits that will last them a lifetime of following Christ.

Why should a student get plugged into our youth Ministry? Well, for a lot of reasons, but most importantly the Youth Ministry seeks to:

Connect students to a life changing relationship with Jesus Christ through Life Groups, our Ignited program for Middle School (7th and 8th grade) students and/or our Souled Out program for Sr. High students.

Grow students in their faith and understanding of scripture.

Serve people because Jesus loves them.

Invest into the lives of friends who don't know Jesus as Savior.

To be blunt, students should be a part of our Youth Ministry because it will change their life and help parents form a spiritual foundation with teenagers that can be found nowhere else! For information regarding our Youth Ministry contact Dave Welsh or Ryan Dew at 614-889-1572.

Programming

In building any successful friendship, it’s important to get to know the other person.  To develop a true and real relationship with Christ, the student must get to know Him…intimately.  The best way to build a relationship is study Him through the inspired word contained in the Bible.  We must educate our student about the Bible; establish a foundation of its contents and how to use it to endure life’s challenges.  Our programs must be relevant and provide practical tools to deal with life events.

To complement their biblical-based learning, students need to experience what it is and means to live a Christian life.  To live for Christ each day and experience the peace and joy that comes from selflessly serving God and His people.  Participating in local service projects and domestic and foreign short term mission trips will shape their world view as well as deepen their relationship with Christ and their fellow students.  Attending Christian conferences and student retreats provide the students with the opportunity to share these mountaintop experiences with their peer group that can often carry them through the valleys that often occur in everyday life.

We must also provide our students with the means and opportunity to reach out to their friends and members of their peer group and share Christ with them.  This includes providing activities that will draw them to our church and hopefully begin a period of seeking Jesus in their own lives.  We need to equip our students with the tools and the confidence to meet their friends where they are and lead them to Christ, as our Youth Ministry does every day for them.
